Hence, it is possible that Lasius neglectus could be more widespread in northern Iberia than previously thought.

La hormiga Lasius neglectus se cita por primera vez de la Cornisa Cantábrica, del municipio de Sopelana (Bizkaia). La colonia encontrada ocupa una superficie de 50 ha y causa numerosos problemas domésticos. El vecindario afirma padecer esta especie desde hace unos 3-4 años. Por tanto, es posible que Lasius neglectus se encuentre más extendida por el norte de la Península Ibérica de lo que se esperaba inicialmente.

Abstract: The ant Lasius neglectus is recorded for the first time from the Cantabrian coast of Spain, from the municipality of Sopelana (Bizkaia). The colony occupies a surface of 50 ha, and is a considerable nuisance in homes. The residents claim to have been affected by this species for the past 3-4 years. Hence, it is possible that Lasius neglectus could be more widespread in northern Iberia than previously thought.
