Summary: A colaboración entre o Concello de Larouco e a Consellería de Cultura, Educación e Universidades da Xunta de Galicia permitía poñer en marcha dende 2020 e ata a actualidade unha serie de accións para a investiga-ción e posta en valor do xacemento arqueolóxico de O Castrillón, un poboado fortiﬁcado da Idade do Ferro que emerxe magníﬁco na conﬂuencia dos ríos Xares e Bibei. Os traballos de limpeza, prospección e escavación arqueolóxica, combinados co emprego de técnicas de teledetección activa (LiDAR) e de datación radiocarbónica (C14), teñen permitido caracterizar morfolóxica e culturalmente o lugar. Ata o momento deﬁniuse o seu monumental sistema defensivo, os diferentes recintos interiores e foron recuperadas tres unidades de habitación. O depósito descuberto na escavación dunha destas estruturas situaría a O Castrillón como un dos poucos xacementos arqueolóxicos do Noroeste pe-ninsular onde podan terse realizado prácticas relacionadas coa xestión da morte nun contexto claramente encadrado na Idade do FerroSummary: The collaboration between the Concello de Larouco and the Consellería de Cultura, Educación e Universi-dades of the Xunta de Galicia made it possible to set in motion a series of actions from 2020 to the present day for the investigation and valorisation of the archaeological site of O Castrillón, an Iron Age fortiﬁed settlement located at the conﬂuence of the Xares and Bibei rivers. The vegetation clearance and the archaeological survey and excavation, combined with the use of active re-mote sensing (LiDAR) and radiocarbon dating (C14) techniques, have enabled its morphological and cultural characterisation. So far, its monumental defensive system has been deﬁned, as well as the different interior enclosures and three dwelling units. The deposit uncovered in the excavation of one of these structures would place O Castrillón as one of the few archaeological sites in Northwest Iberia where practices related to the cult of death could have been carried out in a context clearly framed in the Iron Age.
