Bertan egindako hainbat motatako ikerketek eta eskuhartzeek (geofisiko, geoarkeologiko eta arkeologikoak nagusiki), erromatar garaiko herrigune bat identi-fikatu dute, K.a. I. eta IV. K.o. mendeen bitartekoa, eta Pirinioak zeharkatzen zituen galtzadari lotuta izanen zena. 2017-2021 urteen artean gehien ikertu den eraikinetako bat kokagunearen erdialdean dagoen termagunea da, izan ere, eremu horretan zentratu baitira indusketa arkeologikoko kanpainak.Summary: the archaeological site of Zaldua is located close to the Ibañeta/roncesvalles moun-tain pass, between the nowadays towns of Auritz/Burguete and Aurizberri/espinal (er-roibar/ Valle de erro). Different research and interventions on the site (mainly geophys-ical, geoarchaeological and archaeological) have identified a population centre from the roman period, dated between the 1st BC and the 4th century AD, linked to the road that crossed the Pyrenees. One of the most researched buildings is the thermal complex, located in the centre of the settlement, where the archaeological excavation campaigns have focused between 2017 and 2021.
