520 _aRenal and biliary calculi were obtained from a mummified young woman of the seventeenth century from the Basque Country, Spain. The calculi were studied by chemical analysis, scanning electron microscopy and spectrophotometry. The same techniques were applied to other calculus material obtained from a seventh century necropolis. This communication presents these results and emphasizes the accuracy of the techniques independently of the age and degree of contamination of the human organic remains.
